Good morning from the dock along the Indian River Lagoon in Sebastian, Florida. Here’s your daily waterfront weather, fishing, and wildlife report for Monday June 22, 2026.

Holy cow is this a fishy report.  Between the fishing tournament that we hosted at Sebastian Saltwater this weekend to the massive groups of snook lying under the neighboring dock, the has cover and I use and will be reporting from frequently this summer.

🌤 Waterfront Weather Conditions

Time: 10 AM

Air Temperature: 80°F - high of 89

Humidity: 79%

Wind Direction & Speed: SW at 2 MPH - not enough!

Tide Stage: Low at 11:30 AM and High around 5;30 PM

Moon Phase: First 1/4 - rise at 1:30 AM

Water Conditions: Choppy with occasional white caps cresting.  A north wind is always our coldest wind.

Learn the seasonal rhythms of the lagoon.

One of the joys of living along the Indian River Lagoon is noticing how the ecosystem changes throughout the year:

• Summer brings baitfish schools and afternoon thunderstorms.

• Fall often brings some of the clearest water.

• Winter welcomes migratory birds.

• Spring kicks off spawning activity for many fish species.

The more you pay attention, the more the lagoon feels like a living calendar rather than just a body of water.

🎣 Fishing Activity & Wildlife Sightings

The snook under the dock are amazing.  They are here to breed and look at this big momma sitting down there!  I counted over 25 snook in that one frame!

I even got a good pic of 2 Sheep Head snacking on some barnacles.  I've never caught one in the lagoon but they are in here.

 A momma dolphin and her baby blew through briefly too.  Good day on the deck doing laundry!

A single healthy oyster can filter dozens of gallons of water per day, which is one reason oyster reef restoration has become such an important part of Indian River Lagoon recovery efforts. Healthy oyster populations help improve water quality while also creating habitat for fish, crabs, and other marine life. 🦪

Good morning from the dock along the Indian River Lagoon in Sebastian, Florida. Here’s your WEEKEND waterfront weather, fishing, and wildlife report for Friday June 19, 2026.

It's pleasant this AM with the sun being blocked by thin clouds.  They say there is a 75% chance of rain today but also 92 degrees.  That could be an uncomfortable combination!

Grouchy is on the dock today and a few pelicans as well.

We host a big fishing tournament at the restaurant this weekend so Mondays report should be filled with amazing photos of lots of our offshore species represented.

🌤 Waterfront Weather Conditions

Time: 8 AM

Air Temperature: 79°F with a high of 92

Humidity: 88%

Wind Direction & Speed: South at 3 MPH

Tide Stage: Low at 9 AM and High around 2:30PM

Water Conditions: Calm, flat and low with good clarity.

Lagoon Living Tip for the Day:

Learn the local winds.

On the Indian River Lagoon, wind direction often has a bigger impact on boating, fishing, paddling, and water clarity than temperature. A light west wind can create a completely different experience than a stiff east wind.

A hot and sticky morning on the dock.  I don't get USA network on my TV and the US Open is on so I'm hanging in the clubhouse where we do get that channel and popping out in between sweat sessions on the dock fishing.  I did catch a feisty catfish this AM on a frozen sandflea.

🌤 Waterfront Weather Conditions

Time: 9:30 AM

Air Temperature: 84°F high of 91 with rain coming tomorrow.

Humidity: 82%

Wind Direction & Speed: South at 7 MPH - AKA moisture moving in

Tide Stage: Low at 8 AM and High around 1:30 PM

Water Conditions: Calm, low and clear.  I can see the bottom at the 5.5 pylon mark

Lagoon Living Tip for the Day:

Take a slow walk along the shoreline at low tide.

Low tide reveals oyster beds, baitfish schools, shorebirds, crabs, and subtle features of the ecosystem that remain hidden much of the day.

🎣 Fishing Activity & Wildlife Sightings

Tons of baitfish schooling in the lagoon today.  Something occasionally spooks them and they jump out of the water but in my video today you can see them schooling in balls of fish.

I am a card carrying member of this group and regularly attend their meetings.  Named for nearby Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge, this organization supports bird conservation, habitat protection, educational programs, and field trips throughout the Treasure Coast.

Their efforts help residents discover that the lagoon is one of Florida's premier birding destinations, supporting everything from ospreys and bald eagles to roseate spoonbills and migratory shorebirds.

Good morning from the dock along the Indian River Lagoon in Sebastian, Florida. Here’s your daily waterfront weather, fishing, and wildlife report for Wednesday June 17, 2026.

A big day today for some volunteer time with ORCA.  I ran down to the living shoreline in town to start the day with a little trash pickup and then out to the Inlet State Park!  Check out the video of that park from my park series here.  

ORCA is doing a shoreline stabilization and regeneration project in conjunction with the Sebastian Inlet District.  They are the people who keep the inlet open and navigable to boats.

Wind Direction & Speed: West at 10 MPH

Tide Stage: Low at 9 AM and High around 2 PM

Water Conditions: Beautiful over here at the cut.  We are on the backside of the super clear water at the boat ramp but still pretty water.

Watch the clouds over the mainland.

Summer thunderstorms often build inland before moving east. Learning to read the sky can help boaters, anglers, and paddlers stay safe while enjoying more time on the water.

I drove back into town today after a 1 night stop over in St Augustine.  I used to live up there and still have friends in the area so it is always nice to stop by.  Had a nice walk on the beach there yesterday and ran into a few turtle nests here too and also turn nesting areas just like in Saint Simons!

Plan outdoor activities around the first and last hour of daylight.

The lagoon often puts on its best show during the "golden hours." Wildlife becomes more active, temperatures are cooler, winds are often lighter, and the light itself transforms the water into a living painting.

Good morning from the river along a tidal creek in Saint Simons Island, GA.  Here’s your daily waterfront weather, fishing, and wildlife WEEKEND report for Friday June 12, 2026.

This morning I took a walk on East Beach and the way the topography has changed is amazing.  Check out my travel videos on YouTube if you want to see those videos.

I did run into a dead conger eel on the beach and also some Loggerhead nests!

Good Morning from Saint Simons Island GA

Today we are on the road at the fishing pier in the Village of Saint Simons Island but I still deliver the waterfront weather, fishing, and wildlife report for Thursday June 11, 2026.

I love driving into SSI from the south as I get to go over the Sidney Lanier bridge which spans the Brunswick harbor.  Brunswick is the #1 port in the US for the handling of cars.  There are massive parking lots inland that hold ten of thousands of cars at a time.  If you want to watch me actually drive across the bridge check out this video!

Last night I came to town a night early at stayed at the Home2 Suites right on the airport.  It was awesome to lay at the pool and watch these jets and their lovely passengers come and I go.  I felt like a millionaire!

While out on the pier I walked up just after a guy released a blue shark he caught.  They do a lot of shark fishing off of the pier there.  The shipping channel creates some 50' deep channels that allows a lot of stuff to hide in and then pop up to the flats to eat!

It rained before day break but it has stopped now.  Calm and quiet at the dock.  The repairs are done on the dock so I'm allowed back out here again!  I'm taking off for Saint Simons Georgia today for a long weekend.  We are scattering my fathers ashes in the sea on Saturday and we've got 7 gathering for the ceremony.  Captain Fendig in Saint Simonds provides the service.  I'll do some dock reports to show you SSI as I vacationed there for 25 years when I lived in Atlanta.

Keep a pair of binoculars in your vehicle.

The Indian River Lagoon offers surprise wildlife encounters almost every day. Ospreys diving, dolphins feeding, roseate spoonbills cruising the shoreline, and manatees grazing are often spotted when you least expect them.

Good morning from the dock along the Indian River Lagoon in Sebastian, Florida. Here’s your daily waterfront weather, fishing, and wildlife report for Tuesday June 8, 2026.

Today while fishing I have amphipods jumping all over me so I try and film them.  I always assumed it was crabs that came on the beach at night but I never see any tracks coming or going from these piles so that didn't make total sense.  It seems that these amphipods (think tiny land shrimp) are the ones who burrow into the sand and create these piles.  There are some ants interspersed too but it really seems like the amphipods build these piles.

Very similar to my Master's thesis which looked at insects that ate decomposing seaweed on beaches on Catalina Island in California.  The sea wrack community!

Time: 9 AM

Air Temperature: 79°F - high of 85 and a 25% chance of rain

Humidity: 84%

Wind Direction & Speed: NE at 0-3 MPH

Tide Stage: Low at noon and High around 5 PM.  Only 1 low today

Water Conditions: Flat as a pancake and so quiet.  With the sky hazy there is no wind either and it is almost eerily quiet.

Learn the tide schedule for your favorite fishing, kayaking, or wildlife-watching spots.

A location can look completely different between low and high tide. Fish movement, bird activity, water clarity, and even access to shallow flats often change dramatically throughout the day.

🎣 Fishing Activity & Wildlife Sightings

Today was primarily focused on amphipods but you can hear the snook hitting minnows 5 docks up river because the environment is so still and quiet today.  The blue heron is feeding close to me the the egret is 1 dock over.

A warm but beautiful morning on the lagoon.  It's 80 at 9:30 and going to be 85 today.  It's also going to get a degree or two hotter everyday with rains returning this weekend.   I'll be on the road Wed - Mon as I head to Saint Simonds Island in GA to scatter my fathers ashes at sea.  We have a whole weekend of celebrating him planned mostly by cooking up all his favorite foods!

🌤 Waterfront Weather Conditions

Time: 9:30 AM

Air Temperature: 80°F high of 85

Humidity: 80% - it's back and increasing daily!

Wind Direction & Speed: NE at 5-8 MPH

Tide Stage: Low at 11 AM and High around 5 PM

Water Conditions: Clear and calm with a light ripple.  I can see the bottom at the 5th piling on the dock.  

Lagoon Living Tip for the Day:

Spend time outside after a summer rain.

Rain showers often bring out wildlife activity. Birds begin feeding, baitfish move along shorelines, and the changing light can create some of the most beautiful lagoon scenes of the day.

🎣 Fishing Activity & Wildlife Sightings

I didn't have any luck fishing.  I changed up to a sand flea on the popping cork and am using an artificial shrimp with a wagging tail on the casting pole.

I did have a bounty in the cast net though!  A massive pin fish and even 2 and a mullet in 1 cast.  Bounty of the sea.
