Good morning from the dock along the Indian River Lagoon in Sebastian, Florida. Here’s your daily waterfront weather, fishing, and wildlife report for Tuesday July 14, 2026.

Well it is toasty down here today.  I had a meeting for the Habitat for Humanity committee I'm on this AM so I got down here a bit later.  I'm on the neighbors covered dock!

🌤 Waterfront Weather Conditions

Time: 11 AM

Air Temperature: 85°F - high of 92

Humidity: 72%

Wind Direction & Speed: SW at 6 MPH - not enough!

Tide Stage: High at 10:30 AM and Low around 5:30 PM

Moon Phase: New - rise at 6:30 AM - Yes a New moon for 2 consecutive days.  It can happen depending on the time of moon rise.

Water Conditions: Flat and calm but not that clear.  I cant see nearly as well from the dock as I did a few weeks ago.

Native Plants Make Better Neighbors

Choosing native Florida plants for your yard isn't just beautiful. It benefits the lagoon.

Native plants:

• Require less irrigation once established
• Need fewer fertilizers and pesticides
• Provide food and shelter for birds and pollinators
• Help reduce stormwater runoff into the Indian River Lagoon

A yard filled with firebush, muhly grass, coontie, and Simpson's stopper can be both low-maintenance and a haven for wildlife. It's a simple way homeowners can contribute to a healthier ecosystem.

Lots of greenies in schools near the shore but visibility is so low I cant see any snook at the dock any more.  A few mullet running around but mostly larger ones.

The mottled ducks are bathing and preening where the drainage creek meets the lagoon.  They love that spot.

100th post!  Good Morning from Sebastian Florida

Good morning from the dock along the Indian River Lagoon in Sebastian, Florida. Here’s your daily waterfront weather, fishing, and wildlife report for Monday July 13, 2026.

When I filmed my first Dock Report, I honestly wasn't sure where it would lead.

I simply wanted to share what I was seeing each morning from my little corner of the Indian River Lagoon. The weather, the wildlife, the fishing conditions, and the simple beauty that makes Sebastian such a special place to live.

One hundred posts later, I've realized these reports have become something bigger than I imagined.

They've introduced me to new friends, started conversations at volunteer projects, connected me with people who love this community, and even helped people who spend their summers up north feel like they were back home for a few minutes each morning.

Along the way, I've watched dolphins feed under the dock, osprey hunt for breakfast, manatees drift by, and countless sunrises remind me why I chose to make Sebastian home.

The reports have grown too.

They now include our parks, local restaurants, conservation efforts, farmers, community events, and all the little moments that together make up what I call Sebastian Lagoon Life.

As a Realtor, I help people buy and sell homes.

But these reports have reminded me that people don't move here because of a house.

They move here because of a lifestyle.

A sunrise on the lagoon.

A quiet kayak paddle.

A favorite fishing spot.

Neighbors who become friends.

A place that simply feels right.

So thank you to everyone who has watched a video, read a blog post, asked a fishing question, shared a report, or simply stopped me to say hello.

This is only Post #100.

The Indian River Lagoon isn't a single river. Their work includes:

I'm back and it is hot and still this morning!  It was hot on my trip too but not as hot as here.  I had a great trip!  I've been gone since May 29 and got home yesterday on the 9th.  I had stops in Savannah, Charleston (2x), Asheville (3 places over 7 days), and St Augustine on the way home!

Watch the Seasons Change Along the Lagoon

One of the joys of living on the Treasure Coast is realizing the lagoon is never the same from month to month.

Throughout the year you'll notice:

• Different migratory birds arriving and departing
• Seasonal fish movements
• Changing water clarity
• Blooming native plants
• Manatees seeking warmer waters in cooler months
• Ospreys building and tending their nests in spring

Keeping a simple journal or taking a photo from the same spot every month is a fun way to appreciate just how dynamic the Indian River Lagoon really is.

Nothing much to say here but a nice walk on St Augustine Beach.

Well the journey is underway.  Last night in Savannah and I shot a video this AM while walking the river front.

The Adele pictured here is a 180 foot sailing yacht registered out George Town.  Current ownership is confidential but it was originally owned by Jan-Eric Osterlund from Sweden and he sailed it to all corners of the world and wrote a book Called "Exploring with Adele".

The Savannah port is one of the busiest in the world.  The dredging and expansion plans are pictured on the right and the workman of the river is also pictured.  Tug Boats.

  Always so beautiful!

Man oh man is it toasty outside!  I'm out here at 8 AM and it is so calm and flat that you breathe the same breath of air twice.  The water is incredibly low and the clarity is about as good as it gets.

The snook are still under the dock and the Sheepshead just hangs with them in the video today.  Pretty quiet on the bird front besides some Ibis and Crows.

Leave Every Dock, Park, and Beach Better Than You Found It

One of the easiest ways to care for the lagoon takes less than a minute.

On your next walk, fishing trip, or paddle:

• Pick up a few pieces of litter.
• Recycle what you can.
• Secure loose trash before heading out by boat.
• Encourage kids to make it a game.

Small actions multiplied by thousands of residents make a noticeable difference. Community stewardship is one of the reasons so many people are proud to call the Treasure Coast home.

As a certified affiliate of the national Keep America Beautiful network, the organization develops, motivates, educates, and activates community partners to reduce litter, increase recycling, beautify public spaces, and promote environmental stewardship.

Their programs include:

• Community and shoreline cleanups
• Lagoon Friendly Lawn education
• Recycling initiatives
• School environmental programs
• Volunteer opportunities for residents of all ages

Organizations like this remind us that protecting the lagoon isn't only about large restoration projects. It also happens one cleanup, one volunteer, and one neighborhood at a time.

Happy Friday.  It's the weekend report!  Today I'm back on my dock.  Yesterday after volunteering for ORCA in the morning I went up to Melbourne for the evening to meet up with a friend.  We volunteer gardened in a beautiful spot that is right in the middle of the Eau Gallie Arts District.  What a fun and vibrant little area!  We gardened at the Yoga Garden which is a nice house converted to a yoga studio and the surrounding "yard" is an unbelievable permaculture.  I'll photo next time I go.  I didn't want to be too invasive on trip 1.

Bring a Pair of Binoculars Along

Whether you're walking a trail, sitting on a dock, or enjoying your morning coffee by the water, a small pair of binoculars can completely change your experience.

You might spot:

• Ospreys carrying fish back to their nests
• Roseate spoonbills feeding in the shallows
• Bald eagles soaring overhead
• Dolphins surfacing quietly along the shoreline
• Brown pelicans gliding inches above the water

The Indian River Lagoon rewards people who slow down and take a closer look.

Man is the lagoon alive today. 

Birds -  grouchy, the little blue heron, Egret, pelicans, ducks, osprey, everybody is out.

 Fish - lots of mullet, huge snook, & Sheepshead all swimming about.  Even a nice sized blue crab down by the boat house.

Pelican Island Audubon Society

Long before conservation became a mainstream topic, local residents came together to protect the birds, wildlife, and natural habitats of Indian River County. Today, the Pelican Island Audubon Society continues that mission through education, advocacy, habitat restoration, youth programs, field trips, native landscaping initiatives, and volunteer opportunities. Their mission is to preserve and protect the animals, plants, and natural communities of Indian River County through education, advocacy, and public awareness.

One of my favorite parts of their work is helping people experience nature firsthand. Whether it's bird walks, student education, conservation projects, or helping residents create wildlife-friendly yards, they remind us that protecting the lagoon begins right in our own communities. They also support programs like River Kidz and environmental camps that introduce young people to the incredible diversity of the Indian River Lagoon.

Good Morning from Sebastian Florida

Good morning from the dock along the Indian River Lagoon in Sebastian, Florida. Here’s your daily waterfront weather, fishing, and wildlife report for Thursday June 25, 2026.

One more day working for ORCA this week.  Today is nursery maintenance day down in Vero where we grow the plants that we planted on our living shoreline here in Sebastian.  A beautiful early morning under a massive live oak tree that shades our nursery!

Then I stopped by Hogan Yards which is just off US1 between Aviation and the citrus museum.  What a place!  4 covered pickleball courts, Orchid Island Brewing is onsite, a real live onsite BBQ smoker was already fired up.  Huge outdoor play area.  I met toe nice couple who owns the place and they were super nice.  Go visit them and drink some beer with them.  Great facility!

Water Conditions: It was nice on the dock when I ran down there.  Water level is very low after all the west winds we've had but now that it's out of the East the clarity has gone down some.

Explore the Lagoon Without a Boat

One of the best things about living on the Treasure Coast is that you don't need to own a boat to enjoy the Indian River Lagoon.

Public parks, fishing piers, kayak launches, waterfront boardwalks, and nature preserves provide incredible opportunities to experience the lagoon from shore.

Whether you're watching dolphins at sunrise, spotting a roseate spoonbill along the shoreline, or enjoying an evening breeze from a public dock, some of the best lagoon memories are completely free.

Todays wildlife was me watching tadpoles that were scurrying about in our planters.  The ones we took the Sparatina grass out of were loaded with tadpoles.  Predator free living!

Another morning back at Riverview Park doing some volunteer work for ORCA on the buffered and living shoreline.  Tomorrow I'm down at the nursery and then I prepare to take off for a 10 day stretch to North Carolina!

Pay Attention to the Mangroves

Mangroves are some of the hardest-working plants in Florida.

They:

• Stabilize shorelines
• Reduce erosion
• Provide nursery habitat for fish
• Shelter crabs, shrimp, and juvenile gamefish
• Help improve water quality

The next time you're on the lagoon, look closely along the shoreline. Many of the fish you enjoy catching likely spent part of their lives hiding among mangrove roots.

The health of the fishery often starts in places many people paddle right past.

• Kayak and pontoon eco-tours
• Native plant education
• Citizen science initiatives
• Community environmental events

One of the most valuable things organizations like the ELC do is help people build a personal connection to the lagoon. When people understand an ecosystem, they're far more likely to help protect it.

Good Morning from Sebastian Florida

Good morning from the dock along the Indian River Lagoon in Sebastian, Florida. Here’s your daily waterfront weather, fishing, and wildlife report for Tuesday June 23, 2026.

Today I'm off at Riverview Park downtown to the site of our Buffered and Living Shoreline.  Today was in conjunction with CCA, the Coastal Conservation Assoc, the same people who co-hosted the fishing tournament this weekend.

While we were there we installed 150 50-pound oyster reef balls and 150 Sparatina grasses that live above the waterline but are tollerant of seawater.

Time: 9AM

Air Temperature: 80°F - high of 89

Humidity: 74%

Wind Direction & Speed: SW at 2 MPH - not enough!

Tide Stage: Low at 12:30 AM and High around 6:30 PM

Moon Phase: First 1/4 - rise at 1:45 AM

Water Conditions: Flat, calm, and clear

Start Your Day by Looking Up

Most residents check the weather. Longtime lagoon residents check the sky.

A quick glance upward can tell you a surprising amount:

• Ospreys hovering often indicate baitfish activity.

• Brown pelicans diving suggest schools of fish below.

• Frigatebirds soaring high overhead can signal offshore feeding activity.

• Egrets and herons gathering along shorelines often point to changing tides.

The lagoon is constantly giving clues. The birds are often the first to know what's happening beneath the surface.

🎣 Fishing Activity & Wildlife Sightings

The bait fish were jumping but we were so busy working I didn't do a lot of wildlife viewing.  One thing you couldn't miss was a bull shark cruising up and down the beach.  The dorsal fin never broke the water but you could see the silhouette of its body being traced by the water as it swam along.

Friends of St. Sebastian River

The Friends of St. Sebastian River is a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to protecting and enhancing the St. Sebastian River and its watershed, one of the most important tributaries feeding the Indian River Lagoon.

Their work includes:

• River and shoreline cleanups

• Environmental education

• Habitat protection

• Community outreach

• Advocacy for responsible stewardship

• Support for local conservation initiatives

Why does this matter?

Everything that happens upstream eventually affects the lagoon. Healthy rivers mean cleaner water, healthier fisheries, stronger seagrass beds, and better wildlife habitat throughout the entire estuary.

Waterfront Views Don't Always Mean Waterfront Costs

One of the hidden gems along the Treasure Coast is finding homes that enjoy water views, lagoon access, or nearby waterfront amenities without carrying the full price tag of direct waterfront ownership.

When evaluating a property, consider:

• Distance to a public boat ramp

• Community docks or marina access

• Walking distance to the Indian River Lagoon

• Nearby parks and fishing piers

• Insurance and maintenance costs

Sometimes the best value isn't the house on the water. It's the house that lets you enjoy the water every day while keeping more money in your pocket.
