Good morning from Friendship Park in Sebastian, Florida. Here’s your WEEKEND waterfront weather, fishing, and wildlife report for Friday May 22, 2026.

Today is the first in a series where I'm off the dock and documenting the 22 parks that are listed on the Sebastian Parks and Rec page.

The amenities listed on the city site:  Friendship Park.

I plan on making my return tot he tennis court soon so this park has caught my interest recently.

🌤 Waterfront Weather Conditions

Time: 10:30 AM

Air Temperature: 82°F with a high of 83

Humidity: 77%

Wind Direction & Speed: SE at 10-15 MPH

Tide Stage: Low at 10:30 AM and High around 4 PM

Water Conditions: Slight ripple with good water clarity.

Lagoon Living Tip for the Day:

Keep an eye on the sky at sunset.

Cloud layers often become a natural forecast tool. High wispy clouds, building summer towers inland, or clear western skies can hint at changing weather and make evening dock time feel like a mini science class.

🎣 Fishing Activity & Wildlife Sightings

While at Friendship park today I got to investigate 3 gopher tortoise burrows.  You could feel cool air coming out from them when you get close!

A beautiful morning down on the home dock.  The wind has shifted to the south east a bit today but it is still keeping things comfortable.

🌤 Waterfront Weather Conditions

Time: 10 AM

Air Temperature: 83°F - high of 85

Humidity: 76%

Wind Direction & Speed: South east at 7-10 MPH

Tide Stage: Low at 9:30 AM and High around 3 PM

Water Conditions: Choppy with occasional white caps cresting.

Lagoon Living Tip for the Day:

Carry a small trash bag on the boat.

Picking up even a few floating pieces of debris each trip helps keep plastics out of the lagoon and protects wildlife.

🎣 Fishing Activity & Wildlife Sightings

I fished for a half an hour or so.  No strikes on the shrimp pole but I did have a few shrimp absconded with.  I had a few strikes on the paddle tail in my first few casts but nothing after that.  Lady fish are jumping here and there.  I saw a big ray when I first got on the dock and the egret is on the shore.  I never see grouchy the blue heron any more.  I wonder if they migrate at all?

Good morning from the dock along the Indian River Lagoon in Sebastian, Florida. Here’s your daily waterfront weather, fishing, and wildlife report for Wednesday May 20, 2026.

I stared the morning at the Living Shoreline project that I volunteer for.  Look how beautiful it is right now!

Then I took off for some water quality sampling for ORCA at the Little Hollywood Marina.  That's todays video.  Then after doing down to Vero to do some lab work on the samples, I drove home on the beach and stopped at my favorite sandwich shop, Beach Bites, and took a stroll on the beach.  All by 1 PM!

🌤 Waterfront Weather Conditions

Time: 9:30 AM

Air Temperature: 82°F - high of 85

Humidity: 73%

Wind Direction & Speed: East at 10+ MPH

Tide Stage: High at 10:30 AM and Low around 5 PM

Water Conditions: I light chop on the San Sebastian river

General Observations:

A huge oyster bed is growing under the dock on the San Sebastian river.  The water is definitely high in tannins but it is also clear.  Surprisingly so I thought.

Lagoon Living Tip for the Day:

Create a small pollinator garden.

Native flowers help support bees, butterflies, and birds while reducing the need for fertilizers and irrigation.

Good morning from the dock along the Indian River Lagoon in Sebastian, Florida. Here’s your daily waterfront weather, fishing, and wildlife report for Tuesday May 19, 2026.

Pretty toasty for only 9AM today but a steady east wind keeps things cool so I'm doing so yard work at the complex where I live.  Invasive species removal program!

I'm trying to free up the sea grapes.  Round leaves on the left.  Getting Brazilian Pepper trees and some other red flagged invasive species off of them.

I even uncovered a beautiful beach lilly!

🌤 Waterfront Weather Conditions

Time: 9AM

Air Temperature: 81°F with a high of 84

Humidity: 81 %

Wind Direction & Speed: East at 10-15 MPH

Tide Stage: High at 1 PM and Low around 8 PM

Water Conditions: Choppy with occasional white caps cresting. 

General Observations:

Today was all about invasive species removal.  Here's the skinny on the Brazilian Pepper tree.

Brazilian peppertree (Schinus terebinthifolia) is a highly aggressive invasive plant in Florida, covering over 700,000 acres and causing severe damage to ecosystems. Originally brought from South America in the 1800s as an ornamental, it forms dense, shade-producing thickets that choke out native vegetation. It is a Category I invasive plant that threatens biodiversity and is illegal to move or sell in Florida.

Lagoon Living Tip for the Day:

In tune with my efforts this morning:

Leave some natural shoreline when possible.

Native grasses, mangroves (where appropriate), oyster habitat, and natural vegetation help reduce erosion, improve habitat, and soften runoff before it reaches the lagoon.

A quiet morning down on the dock now that the weekend campers have pulled out.  By the days end there were already some new arrivals though.  It's like living in a hotel here and I love hotels.

🌤 Waterfront Weather Conditions

Time: 10:30 AM

Air Temperature: 82°F with a high of 83

Humidity: 75%

Wind Direction & Speed: East at 10-15 MPH

Tide Stage: High at 6:30 AM and Low around 12 PM

Water Conditions: Choppy with occasional white caps cresting.  

General Observations:

The East winds are back.  They are certainly the most refreshing in the summer but they make fisihng tough.

Lagoon Living Tip for the Day:

Keep a simple wildlife journal.

You’d be amazed how quickly you start noticing seasonal patterns: manatees in warmer water, bait schools moving through, dolphin activity, ospreys nesting, or the return of migratory birds.

🎣 Fishing Activity & Wildlife Sightings

I'm embarking on a sea grape encouragement program.  The sea grape is a native shrubby tree that does in fact produce fruit that is good to eat.  They also do a good job of holding sand banks along with mangroves.  Next to this poor sea grape are invasive species.  The awful thing on the left almost died from the freeze this past year so now is my chance!  It has horrible spines all over it and it grows close to the ground and snares everything it touches.  Gone now.

Next is the Brazilian pepper trees to the right.  Baby steps!

Plant native Florida landscaping whenever possible.

Native plants typically require less fertilizer, less watering, and fewer chemicals, helping reduce runoff into the Indian River Lagoon while supporting birds and pollinators.

I got up early this morning so I'm down here a bit on the early side today and it is quiet.  The way the sun was poking through the clouds is what brought me down here early.  I didn't even bring my fishing pole.

Air Temperature: 73°F with a high of 85

Humidity: 87%

Wind Direction & Speed: Northwest at 0-5 MPH

Tide Stage: High at 9:30 AM and Low around 4PM

Water Conditions: Calm as a bathtub

General Observations:

An absolutely beautiful extended sunrise.

Lagoon Living Tip for the Day:

Support local seafood when possible.

Choosing responsibly harvested local seafood helps support working waterfronts, local fishermen, and the cultural heritage tied to the Indian River Lagoon and Treasure Coast communities.

My personal favorite is The Original Sebastian Seafood Market right here in town.

It was quiet this AM and since I ran down to see the sky I didn't even have my fishing gear with me!  The egret was down doing some fishing but everything else was quiet.

The rain is gone and its a beautiful still morning on the dock.  Fish jumping, birds flying, but there is a low energy to everything.  It seems still as the breeze is slight and all is quiet.

🌤 Waterfront Weather Conditions

Time: 8 AM

Air Temperature: 74°F - high of 84

Humidity: 92%

Wind Direction & Speed: Northwest around 8 MPH

Tide Stage: High at 8:30 AM and Low around 3:30 PM

Water Conditions: Calm and flat with good water clarity.

General Observations:

It always seems like it takes a bit after a few days of rain for normalcy to return.  I'm sure the birds hunker down during the storms and then they have to shake off the wet.  Do some nest repair and then head out for some fresh chow.

Lagoon Living Tip for the Day:

Wash vehicles at a commercial car wash when possible.

Commercial facilities typically treat and recycle water, while driveway washing can send soap, oil, and grime into storm drains that flow toward the lagoon.

🎣 Fishing Activity & Wildlife Sightings

I didn't have time to fish this morning but 1 neighbor told me he had 1 good hit in 20 minutes of fishing.  You can see ladyfish breaking the surface but the mullet seem quiet so far today.

A great morning for some volunteer work for ORCA at the Riverfront Park and the buffered shoreline project I help out with.  Next week I'm off to do my first water sampling day that I was trained for a few weeks ago!

I'm also picking up a tennis racket again for the 1st time in 5 years next week on Tuesday.  Heads up.  Downtown Sebastian Park clay courts.  I'm too old for hard courst any more.

Air Temperature: 84°F

Humidity: 75%

Wind Direction & Speed: West at 2-5 MPH

Tide Stage: High at 11:30 AM and Low around 6 PM

Water Conditions: Calm and clear

General Observations:

It's darn hot out here today!  West winds don't cool things off much.

Lagoon Living Tip for the Day:

Turn off unnecessary outdoor lights during sea turtle nesting season.

Bright beachfront and waterfront lighting can confuse hatchlings trying to reach the ocean. Using turtle-friendly lighting helps protect local marine life connected to the lagoon ecosystem.

🎣 Fishing Activity & Wildlife Sightings

Lots of fish jumping down here at the public kayak launch.  1 guy was fishing when we arrived and later another man came with his cast net.

Well it keeps raining but nothing like the rain and blow we had on Sunday night!  Here the aftermath of that storm.

🌤 Waterfront Weather Conditions

Time: 9:30 AM

Air Temperature: 80°F with a high of 83

Humidity: 87%

Wind Direction & Speed: Northeast at 5 MPH

Tide Stage: High at 7 AM and Low around 2 PM

Water Conditions: Clear and calm.  Good visibility.

General Observations:

The wind direction has it feel a bit less tropical today but the humidity is still close to water so it's summer time.  They expect the rains to continue for a few more days.  Just in the afternoons.  Good for nap time!

Lagoon Living Tip for the Day:

Use reusable water bottles and shopping bags near the water.

Reducing single-use plastics helps prevent litter from entering storm drains, canals, and ultimately the Indian River Lagoon, where wildlife can mistake debris for food.

🎣 Fishing Activity & Wildlife Sightings

I'm catching catfish on dead shrimp.  I also hooked a ladyfish with my paddle tail lure but it spit it back at me.  I also lost another tail on my paddle tail!  

One of my neighbors came down and put me to shame with his lure catching a snook and 2 lady fish in 20 casts.  I saw his lure and it has a big eye on it.  Maybe the head on my paddle tail isn't good enough.  Fishing envy!

I did see a nice gopher tortise yesterday up at Chozen.
