Good Morning from Sebastian Florida
Good morning from the dock along the Indian River Lagoon in Sebastian, Florida. Here’s your daily waterfront weather, fishing, and wildlife report for Wednesday June 24, 2026.
Another morning back at Riverview Park doing some volunteer work for ORCA on the buffered and living shoreline. Tomorrow I'm down at the nursery and then I prepare to take off for a 10 day stretch to North Carolina!

Lagoon Living Tip for the Day:
Pay Attention to the Mangroves
Mangroves are some of the hardest-working plants in Florida.
They:
- Stabilize shorelines
- Reduce erosion
- Provide nursery habitat for fish
- Shelter crabs, shrimp, and juvenile gamefish
- Help improve water quality
The next time you're on the lagoon, look closely along the shoreline. Many of the fish you enjoy catching likely spent part of their lives hiding among mangrove roots.
The health of the fishery often starts in places many people paddle right past.
🎣 Fishing Activity & Wildlife Sightings
It was so hot and still that the only thing moving besides us were insects.
🌊 Indian River Lagoon Spotlight
Environmental Learning Center
Located in Vero Beach, the Environmental Learning Center (ELC) has spent decades connecting residents and visitors to the Indian River Lagoon through hands-on environmental education, guided experiences, conservation programs, and community outreach.
Their work includes:
- Lagoon education programs
- Summer camps for children
- Kayak and pontoon eco-tours
- Native plant education
- Citizen science initiatives
- Community environmental events
One of the most valuable things organizations like the ELC do is help people build a personal connection to the lagoon. When people understand an ecosystem, they're far more likely to help protect it.
🏡 Sebastian & Vero Real Estate Suggestion of The Day
Think About How You'll Use the Home, Not Just What It Looks Like
It's easy to fall in love with a beautiful kitchen or a stunning view, but the best home purchase decisions are often based on lifestyle.
Before making an offer, ask yourself:
- Where will guests park?
- Is there room for a boat or kayak?
- How far is the nearest boat ramp or beach?
- Can you comfortably age in place if your needs change?
- How much outdoor maintenance will the property require?
A home should support the life you want to live, not just look good in photos.
