Good Morning from Sebastian Florida

Good morning from the dock along the Indian River Lagoon in Sebastian, Florida. Here’s your WEEKEND waterfront weather, fishing, and wildlife report for Friday June 19, 2026.

It's pleasant this AM with the sun being blocked by thin clouds.  They say there is a 75% chance of rain today but also 92 degrees.  That could be an uncomfortable combination!

Grouchy is on the dock today and a few pelicans as well.

 

We host a big fishing tournament at the restaurant this weekend so Mondays report should be filled with amazing photos of lots of our offshore species represented.

Time: 8 AM

Air Temperature: 79°F with a high of 92

Humidity: 88%

Wind Direction & Speed: South at 3 MPH

Tide Stage: Low at 9 AM and High around 2:30PM

Water Conditions: Calm, flat and low with good clarity.

Learn the local winds.

On the Indian River Lagoon, wind direction often has a bigger impact on boating, fishing, paddling, and water clarity than temperature. A light west wind can create a completely different experience than a stiff east wind.

 

🎣 Fishing Activity & Wildlife Sightings

Glass minnows (primarily Bay Anchovies) are tiny, translucent baitfish with a distinctive silver stripe, found abundantly from Maine to the Gulf of Mexico. They are highly fragile and cannot be kept alive for long periods, making them extremely popular in frozen blocks, salted, or as models for artificial lures and flies. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Overview & Characteristics
  • What they are: Technically Bay Anchovies (Anchoa mitchilli), they measure 1 to 4 inches in length and are a major food source for game fish like speckled trout, tarpon, snook, and Spanish mackerel. [1, 2, 3, 4]
  • The "Run": In places like Florida, massive seasonal runs happen—usually in late summer (August–September)—where the bait is pushed toward the beaches in dense schools, triggering feeding frenzies. [1]
  • Behavior: They are drawn to moving water, bridge shadows, and dock lights, particularly during low-light windows (dawn and dusk). [1]
