Today's Lagoon Life:

I saw a large (10 feet +) swimming outside the marina in the lagoon this AM.  I didn't have my phone on me so I didn't capture any video or pics, dang it!  That said it was LARGE.  Better then the 10' long snake that crawled under the house  I'm at in Barefoot Bay!  Nature can be scary!

Lagoon Living Tip of the Day:

🌊 Lagoon Living Tip of the Day: Check the Water Before You Wade!

After this week's heavy flooding, remember that clear water doesn't necessarily mean clean water.

Stormwater runoff can carry bacteria from sewage, pet waste and other sources into the Indian River Lagoon. These contaminants can pose health risks to swimmers, especially anyone with open cuts or wounds.

Today's tip: Before swimming or letting your pets into local waterways, check for water-quality advisories. Give recently flooded areas extra time to recover.

Wildlife & Nature

10 foot snakes and 10 foot alligators!  Like the Jurassic epoch.  Everything has been displaced.  For example look at the roaches using a floating flip flop like a life raft earlier this week!

💚 Indian River County Do-Gooder: Keep Indian River Beautiful

Sometimes protecting the Indian River Lagoon begins with something as simple as picking up a piece of trash.

Keep Indian River Beautiful is a Vero Beach nonprofit that brings volunteers together for litter prevention, recycling, conservation education and community beautification.

The organization also promotes reuse and upcycling, helping residents keep usable materials out of landfills.

Volunteers can participate in neighborhood cleanups and other projects that make Indian River County cleaner and healthier.

Why they matter: Every piece of litter removed from our streets is one less piece that could eventually reach our waterways.

Lagoon Lifestyle & Real Estate

🏡 Real Estate Tip of the Day: Moving Within Florida? Take Your Tax Savings With You!

Florida homeowners who sell one primary residence and purchase another may qualify for a valuable property-tax benefit called Homestead Portability.

Portability allows eligible homeowners to transfer up to $500,000 of their accumulated Save Our Homes assessment benefit to a new Florida homestead.

The benefit isn't automatic. Homeowners must apply, and the new homestead generally must be established within three assessment years after abandoning the previous one.

Today's tip: Before selling your Florida home, ask your property appraiser about portability. You may be able to preserve substantial property-tax savings when you move.
