Good morning from the dock along the Indian River Lagoon in Sebastian, Florida. Here’s your daily waterfront weather, fishing, and wildlife report for Tuesday May 19, 2026.
Pretty toasty for only 9AM today but a steady east wind keeps things cool so I'm doing so yard work at the complex where I live. Invasive species removal program!
I'm trying to free up the sea grapes. Round leaves on the left. Getting Brazilian Pepper trees and some other red flagged invasive species off of them.
I even uncovered a beautiful beach lilly!

Water Conditions: Choppy with occasional white caps cresting.
General Observations:
Today was all about invasive species removal. Here's the skinny on the Brazilian Pepper tree.
Brazilian peppertree (Schinus terebinthifolia) is a highly aggressive invasive plant in Florida, covering over 700,000 acres and causing severe damage to ecosystems. Originally brought from South America in the 1800s as an ornamental, it forms dense, shade-producing thickets that choke out native vegetation. It is a Category I invasive plant that threatens biodiversity and is illegal to move or sell in Florida.

In tune with my efforts this morning:
Leave some natural shoreline when possible.
Native grasses, mangroves (where appropriate), oyster habitat, and natural vegetation help reduce erosion, improve habitat, and soften runoff before it reaches the lagoon.
