Good Morning from Sebastian Florida

Good morning from the dock along the Indian River Lagoon in Sebastian, Florida. Here’s your daily waterfront weather, fishing, and wildlife report for Tuesday June 8, 2026.

Today while fishing I have amphipods jumping all over me so I try and film them.  I always assumed it was crabs that came on the beach at night but I never see any tracks coming or going from these piles so that didn't make total sense.  It seems that these amphipods (think tiny land shrimp) are the ones who burrow into the sand and create these piles.  There are some ants interspersed too but it really seems like the amphipods build these piles.

Very similar to my Master's thesis which looked at insects that ate decomposing seaweed on beaches on Catalina Island in California.  The sea wrack community!

Time: 9 AM

Air Temperature: 79°F - high of 85 and a 25% chance of rain

Humidity: 84%

Wind Direction & Speed: NE at 0-3 MPH

Tide Stage: Low at noon and High around 5 PM.  Only 1 low today

Water Conditions: Flat as a pancake and so quiet.  With the sky hazy there is no wind either and it is almost eerily quiet.

Learn the tide schedule for your favorite fishing, kayaking, or wildlife-watching spots.

A location can look completely different between low and high tide. Fish movement, bird activity, water clarity, and even access to shallow flats often change dramatically throughout the day.

 

🎣 Fishing Activity & Wildlife Sightings

Today was primarily focused on amphipods but you can hear the snook hitting minnows 5 docks up river because the environment is so still and quiet today.  The blue heron is feeding close to me the the egret is 1 dock over.
