Today's Lagoon Life:
I started the day at the tranquil ORCA Center for Citizen Science working in the nursery and then I took a ride out to the beach to see h=what the effect of the King tide/full moon and windfest has been. It is shocking.

Lagoon Living Tip of the Day:
Lagoon Living Tip | Your Lawn Is Connected to the Lagoon
Rainwater carries grass clippings, fertilizer, pet waste and other debris through roadside swales, storm drains and canals toward local waterways, including the Indian River Lagoon.
As yard waste decomposes, it releases nutrients that can encourage excessive algae growth and worsen water quality.
Today’s tip: Leave grass clippings on your lawn when practical, keep debris off pavement and never blow yard waste into storm drains. Protecting the Lagoon starts in our neighborhoods.

Today's Lagoon Spotlight
Indian River Lagoon Insight | Friends of St. Sebastian River
Since 1988, Friends of St. Sebastian River has brought local residents together to advocate for river health, wildlife habitat, water quality and environmental education.
Along the river at Cypress Bend Community Preserve, conservation partners have planted thousands of native aquatic and shoreline plants to restore habitat, including vegetation useful to the uncommon opossum pipefish. Restoration progress is being monitored.
Why it matters: The St. Sebastian River feeds the Indian River Lagoon. Healthier riverbanks and native habitats support the entire connected ecosystem. Local people can follow the group’s work and look for volunteer opportunities.

Lagoon Lifestyle & Real Estate
Real Estate Tip | Know What Is Underground
If a Sebastian or Roseland home uses a septic system, investigate the location of its tank and drain field before closing. Those features can affect plans for a pool, patio or addition.
Historical permits and site plans may be available through SepticSearch, though records can be incomplete and do not replace a professional septic inspection.
Today’s tip: Research what is underground as carefully as you inspect what is above it. A functioning septic system also helps protect nearby waters.

A thought from the Dock: The Lagoon is shaped by small choices in our homes, yards and communities. Knowing how things connect helps us protect the place we call home.
